Stranger or Shepherd: Whose Voice Do You Hear?Sermon by Pastor Chastity ParksIn our noisy world filled with countless voices competing for attention, one of the most crucial spiritual skills we can develop is learning to recognize and follow our true Shepherd's voice. God is constantly speaking and reaching out to us, but the challenge lies in distinguishing His voice from all the others that surround us daily.Jesus describes Himself as the Good Shepherd in John 10, explaining that His sheep hear His voice and follow Him because they know it intimately. However, we encounter three distinct types of voices in our spiritual journey. The Shepherd's voice belongs to Jesus, who knows us by name and will lay down His life for us. The hired hand's voice may sound similar but comes from those who abandon us when difficulties arise. The stranger's voice can be deceptive, especially if we've never truly learned to recognize our Shepherd's voice, leading us away from our calling and purpose.Many believers fall into the trap of following strangers by accepting ungodly counsel, constantly church-hopping while carrying hurt and offense, or chasing after platform-driven influencers who may have impressive followings but lack genuine spiritual fruit. The enemy tempts us to skip the processes God has designed for our growth, offering shortcuts that ultimately lead to destruction. To truly hear God's voice, we must learn what it sounds like to us personally, test every word we receive against Scripture, and ask Him to reveal Himself in undeniable ways.
