Stretching is Overrated: Strength and Yoga

from The Architecture of Health · host Deborah Voisin

Hannah of Hannah Presence Yoga is a successful yoga teacher in the UK who has taught a lot of different types of yoga classes to a wide variety of people. At one point in her career, her yoga practice stopped progressing. She visited a personal trainer and was shocked at not only how weak certain muscles were but how much more "flexible" she became once she got stronger! She realized that part of what she and other yoga teachers characterized as muscle "tightness" was often a sign of muscle weakness and overstretching... So she redesigned her classes and her students also started to have breakthroughs. We chat about how Hannah navigated these and other lifestyle changes.
