Strictly Ballroom (1992)

from Uncultured Universe

"A life lived in fear is a life half lived." February starts off with a quickstep and a foxtrot by looking at the iconic and well-respected work of auteur Baz Luhrmann debut film, "Strictly Ballroom." It is a romantic comedy/drama centered on a gifted dancer bound for great things and a lust for bucking the system with his unconventional dance steps and trying to succeed with a new partner. This was one of Joe's "library" movies that he and his family watched a bunch growing up, and Justin had never even HEARD of it before! The boys discuss the ins and outs of Luhrmann's debut film and how it ties to the other films of his red curtain trilogy, "Romeo + Juliet" and "Moulin Rouge." Speaking of, stay tuned for the next episode where we look at Luhrmann's follow up, "Romeo + Juliet"! -- We are Uncultured Universe - the podcast where two friends show each other movies, tv, music, or anything else to get a little more cultured.
