As the Enterprise-D transports some dangerous virus samples, Deanna Troi is suddenly pregnant! Unknown to the crew, a nameless entity impregnates Troi, and the pregnancy progresses with shocking speed. Troi gives an effortless birth to a boy who she names Ian. The boy develops just as quickly outside of the womb, growing like a space weed, and suddenly, one of the virus samples decides to follow suit and grow at a dangerous rate that threatens all life on the Enterprise, including some delightful puppies. The crew determines the virus is reacting to exposure to Eichner radiation, but they are at a loss to determine where the radiation is coming from. Would you believe the source is Ian? Well, it is, so he decides to go ahead and die to save the day. Back to being an entity, it bonds with Troi and explains itself.
