Studio Stories: Reminiscing on Twin Cities Dance with April Sellers Season 1 Episode 10

April Sellers is an independent choreographer, dancer and performance curator who has createdover 60 works over the past 18 years. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of April SellersDance Collective which is renowned for its complex expressions of identity in highly craftedperformances. She uses movement, humor, and a mix of scripted and improvised content toexplore gender, politics and pop culture. Her works have been commissioned by The Right HereShowcase, Candy Box Festival, Intermedia Arts, Southern Theater and Red Eye Theater inMinneapolis, as well as Dancing Queerly in Boston. Her most recent and transgressiveperformance, Animal Corridor prompted the award “Best Artist of the Year” by City Pages in2017. Other awards include the Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grants (2015, 2002),the McKnight Fellowship for Choreography (2011) and the Sage Award (2006). Over the pastdecade, Sellers has been invited to participate in a number of residencies, including the DjerassiResident Artists Program (Santa Cruz, California) and the Maggie Allesee National Center forChoreography (Tallahassee, Florida). Sellers holds an MFA in Dance from the University ofWisconsin, Milwaukee.
