Study 141: James Turrell’s Largest Museum Skyspace: A Critical Analysis of Light and Space

from Objects of Affection Collection — Studies · host Objects of Affection Collection

James Turrell’s largest museum Skyspace, As Seen Below, opened at the ARoS Aarhus Art Museum in Denmark in June 2026: a subterranean dome roughly forty metres across, capped by an oculus open to the Nordic sky and washed by more than eleven hundred programmable light sources. It is his largest museum Skyspace and, by his own count, near his hundredth. This OAC study reads the work not as spectacle but as structure: a Material Singularity so total it cannot be moved, fractionalized, or resold.
