Study 191: The Object That Is Only Ever Rented

This corpus assumes ownership is the normal relation between a person and an object. For a large class of objects nobody who uses the thing owns it. This study examines instrument loans, bailment, equipment hire, scaffolding, costume houses, museum loans and libraries, and finds that the duty of care runs inversely to title, that the best maintenance records belong to objects nobody owns, and that this institution's own Custodian's Contract borrowed the vocabulary of custody while keeping the structure of a sale.
