The altar, symbolizing Christ's intercessory work, stands in contrast to the brazen altar of animal sacrifice, which is judged for being corrupted by the Roman Catholic doctrine of the mass, which re-presents Christ's sacrifice as a repeated offering. This distinction underscores the sufficiency of Christ's once-for-all atonement, rejecting any notion of ongoing sacrificial systems.
