"(sub)" is an aural dissection of the way migration is coded in the use of language in European media. While focusing specifically on the way Spanish official media channels refer to the plight of migrants in the Western Mediterranean, it attempts to draw a wider perspective on how acts of naming are used to fictionalise conflict and de-humanize the cultural other. In this scenario, neither the use of language, nor the cardinal points on a map - West, South, East, North - are neutral or innocent. "(sub)" was recently presented as an installation at JACA V - The fifth edition of the Anarchist Art and Creativity Congress in EKO Carabanchel, Madrid, June 6 - 9 2019. "(sub)" was originally commissioned by Anna Raimondo and Younes Baba-Ali of Saout Radio for their Saout Africa(s) project. It was first broadcast on documenta14 Public Radio in July 2017.
