Subversive Spanish Cinema: The Politics of Performance (Londres: Bloomsbury Publishing PLC, 2020) es el primer libro monográfico en analizar en detalle el concepto de performatividad en el cine español contemporáneo. El libro estudia las implicaciones políticas de dicho concepto, tanto en el sentido de interpretación como de performatividad, usando como ejemplos tanto películas clave de la historia del cine español como intervenciones públicas de actores como Javier Bardem o Juan Diego Botto. El libro propone que el concepto de performatividad usada como estrategia política es un arma clave para las artes y la cultura en momentos claves de la historia reciente de España, como la dictadura, la transición o, más recientemente, la crisis económica y las políticas de austeridad del gobierno conservador español durante los años 2010. Fiona Noble es doctora en estudios de cine español por la Universidad de Aberdeen, en Escocia. Es profesora de Estudios Hispánicos en la Facultad de Artes y Humanidades (división de literaturas y lenguas) de la Universidad Stirling, también en Escocia. Entre otros trabajos, Fiona ha publicado ensayos sobre la representación de la inmigración, los niños y relaciones lésbicas interculturales en el cine español contemporáneo. Además de ser autora del libro del que hablamos en este episodio de los canales de cine y de estudios ibéricos de New Books Network en español, Subversive Spanish Cinema, es co-editora de Preservation, Radicalism and the Avant-Garde Canon (Londres: Palgrave, 2016). En la actualidad trabaja en su nuevo libro monográfico, sobre el cine de Fernando León de Aranoa, contratado con Manchester University Press y en un proyecto de investigación sobre las intersecciones entre el género y el sonido en las culturas audiovisuales de España.
