SUMMER - bush and climbing beans - a beginner's guide to growing beans
from Rooting for You | Beginner Edible Gardening · host alyce alexandra & tess
S4E2 - Tess and Alyce chat about growing beans and an introduction into the two main varieties of bean plants - bush beans and climbing (or pole) beans. Don't know the difference? Listen along to find out more but here's the great news: the bush bean is perfect for anyone that has a little extra space this Summer. We've focussed on the fresh-eating beans in this episode, perhaps we need another one focusing on dried beans! But the planting and maintenance is the same for both fresh and dried beans, it's simply the harvest stage that differs. A little note for the newbies - broad beans or fava beans are a totally different kettle of fish for gardeners, and are grown throughout winter! So please don't use our tips in this episode for growing broad beans. We'll do another episode on them when the time is right (autumn!). ** EDITOR'S NOTE: Alyce called beans a fruiting crop, they're actually a legume, lucky this makes zero difference to how they're grown!
