Sermon Summary:In our exploration of Psalm 23, we discover that being led by our Good Shepherd requires one essential skill: learning to hear his voice. Just as sheep instinctively recognize and follow their shepherd's call, we must develop our ability to discern God's voice in our daily lives.David's declaration that "The LORD is my shepherd" reveals a deeply personal relationship with Yahweh, the covenant God who knows our names and cares for us individually. The psalm's imagery of green pastures and quiet waters points to a Shepherd who actively guides us to places of rest and refreshment, but only if we're listening for his direction.Jesus modeled this perfectly, doing only what he saw the Father doing and speaking only what he heard the Father saying. This divine communication happens in what we might call our imagination - the place where God's Spirit meets our spirit. Our imagination becomes the inner sanctuary where we encounter God's promptings and guidance.The challenge is learning to validate these divine nudges rather than dismissing them as "just our thoughts." When loving, kingdom-minded promptings arise, we need the courage to let them interrupt our plans. This requires walking through life with our spiritual walkie-talkie on, maintaining a listening posture throughout our day.Discernment comes through Scripture, examining the fruit of our actions, and aligning with Jesus' character.
