Hello, welcome back to another episode of Broken Record. My name is Ellie. I'm your host and welcome to season three. We are back from summer break and I'm so excited because we have some amazing things in store for this year here on 88 and the bridge and I'm so excited.
But I wanted to spend this first episode of the season going over summer break and what concerts I went to, what things were announced and just do a little recap for the season because we got to start off catching everybody up and then we'll move forward and have so much fun. So obviously I think the big ticket item that was on everyone's minds this summer was the era's tour. Miss Taylor Swift. I was very, very, very fortunate enough to go to both nights in the Seattle era, not Seattle era, not Seattle era, but like on the Seattle leg of the tour and I loved it so much.
I cried so much during that concert. It's kind of embarrassing. But like if you've ever been to a Taylor Swift concert, you know that like she puts on a show and not just like a like a like a oh, she puts on a show. She has costumes, whatever, like it's like you're going to the theater except it's a concert and you can scream every single word with your full chest.
It's insane. My dad went with me and my family the second night of the era's tour in Seattle. And when we left the concert, he was like, I feel like I just saw the Beatles. Like I feel like like this is a this is a big deal.
And I was like, Dad, you're finally getting on the train. Like we've been telling you this. And so it made me happy that he liked it because my dad is a Taylor Swift fan, but he's not as big of a Taylor Swift fan as my mom, my sister and I. And so it was really special to like kind of share our love for Taylor with him and have him experience her concert.
Because it was his first time going and I just am so glad that he had a good time because I mean, it would be very hard not to have a good time by the Taylor Swift concert, but like knowing me, I'm always just a little bit worried that there's like slight off chance that like something could go wrong and like something can like knock their night and like they like they won't have the best memory. But I'm so glad that we did because it was so fun. It's so amazing. And we all got to scream the words to some of the songs.
It was really special and I felt really lucky to go. I'm sure I'm sure you've seen the era's tour, TikTok videos on the internet and how amazing crazy and fabulous Taylor is. But she really is like, I don't I feel like seeing her in person. And just I don't even know.
Like I feel like I feel like I hear a lot when people go to concerts that like, especially with big names that layer like like they're like, like they're real. Like they're like, I'm seeing them in person. They're real. Like I feel like that's a lot of reactions that they're there.
I feel like I had that reaction with Taylor Swift, but I also was like so proud. I guess not that I have the right to feel proud of anything because I'm not like Taylor's mom. I didn't help Taylor any in any way with her career. I didn't get her the big record deal.
But I just felt really proud of her because like obviously she's been through a lot as I'm sure many artists have, but Taylor Swift particularly has been in the spotlight for a lot of her hard times. And she is out here selling insane sized stadiums sold out. Like the tickets are bonkers and expensive and she's just having the time of her life. And it made me so happy for her because she looked like she was just having the best time and that's really all like I'm looking for when I go see a concert.
Like I love music and I love going to concerts, but I feel like I've been to enough now where I can tell like if the person wants to be there and like if they're having fun or if they're just there to play a gig. And Taylor just was totally there to have fun. Like it was outstanding and it made me so happy and I cried when she came out and I also cried during the sad songs and I don't she just moved to like it's crazy. And it's insane how everyone knew the words to every song.
Like I feel like with a lot of the concerts that I go to, there's the songs that everyone knows whatever and then the artists will play one or two songs and kind of less or no, but like the fan fans know it. But like if you can't like if you're just familiar with that artist music, so you don't really know it. But Taylor Swift, every single person in the venue knew every single song that was played, which is so special because there was never kind of like a dull moment. Like there were like even when Taylor Swift was playing folklore and I remember just kind of like her slower, more like I wouldn't want to say calm, but like just it would be a good place to settle in the concert.
And I feel like a lot of people did a lot of people sat down, but everyone sang still, at least in my section, everyone's still saying. And it was so cool because like when can you go to a concert and feel around you that every single person knows and loves the songs that are being played? It was so special. But anyway, Taylor Swift wasn't the only concert I went to this summer.
I also was lucky enough to go to Las Vegas with my family. And while we were there, we went to the Garth Brooks plus one residency and it was super cool. It was really fun. The venue that it was in was the Coliseum at Caesar's Palace.
And it was a really cool venue. It was very small, but it didn't feel small, if that makes sense. I think it's like 4,000 people in the venue, but it was crazy. It was the venue was really pretty.
I don't even know how to explain it, but it was like it's set up like a theater. Like if you think of like a classic like theater that you're going to see a musical at it's set up like that, but a little bit wider. And then there's obviously the stage and stuff, but it was so cool. And it was really special.
The name of his residency is plus one. And that's because he has a guest every night or every night at the concert, I should say. And for this concert that we went to, he brought out Trisha Yearwood, which if you didn't know is his wife. And it was so cool.
It was so fun to see them on stage and interact and sing together. It was really cute. It made me smile. It was adorable.
And one of his like workers, actually, no, I think it was someone in the venue staff. They got engaged the night we were there. It was so cute. There was a portion of Garth's show where he would like, where he like read pieces of paper.
If that makes sense, I guess people like wrote on before the show. He would read pieces of paper and then he and then there was one that was like, obviously stage, but like, we didn't know it at the time. And it was like, I love you so much. Can you sing the song?
Only look at me or something like that. And then he was like, oh, yeah, sure, come up on stage. And so the girl came on stage and was so cute and adorable. And he was just like, hi, like what's your name?
Where are you from? The classic. And then her now fiance walked on stage behind her and like tapped her shoulder and was like, down on one knee and proposed. And it was so cute.
But yeah, the concert was really fun. I will say one thing I was kind of annoying, but also understandable is Garth Brooks had everyone lock their phones up. And it was kind of annoying because we can like take pictures of videos of the concert, which I get the idea and I respect it. Because like, obviously, we get the moment and Garth can play songs that like he doesn't normally play and yah, yah, yah.
But it was just a little bit annoying because like, my family went with another family and my grandparents. We all went to Las Vegas together and we all went to the concert together. But our seats were in different parts of the venue because we bought them at different times. And then it was just a little bit hard to communicate with everyone, I guess would be the word.
It was just a little hard to communicate with everyone because I was sitting with my dad and my sister and then my mom and my grandparents were sitting closer to the stage. They actually had really good seats. They were like third row and then our friends were sitting like a section over. So we were all in kind of different parts of the venue.
So we couldn't just like turn around and be like, hey, like I'm gonna go to the bathroom, get a drink, whatever. Do you want anything? So that part was a little annoying just because we were separated. But if we were sitting together, it would have been fine.
But yeah, other than that, it was fine. And then when we left the venue, we got to get our phones back. Well, we always had our phones with us, but they were putting these little pouches. They were like locked so we couldn't get in.
Oh, yeah. It was kind of weird kind of annoying. It was, I will say it was kind of annoying because the pouches were kind of chunky. And so you couldn't like put it in your pocket.
So you just had to like hold your phone unless you had like a purse or anything, but I didn't have one. And so it was a little weird, not weird. It was just a little inconvenient, but we survived. It was fine.
It was a great concert. It was really cool. I recommend going if you can. And speaking of concerts, because what else am I talking about this episode?
I also went to the Ed Sheering Concert in Seattle. It was so cool. My mom and I actually went to both Ed Sheering Concerts in Seattle because if you didn't know, Ed is currently on two tours. He's on the subtract tour and he's on the mathematics store.
And so the mathematics store he announced originally and he is playing in like, stadiums like football stadiums all around the country. He already was in Europe, I believe, but he's going all around the country and football stadiums. And then he announced later on that he was going to do the subtract tour where he would play theater sized venues the night before the concert at the football venues. And so he would like at the mathematics store, he would focus on all of his albums and play songs from all of his albums.
And then at the subtract store, he would play music from the subtract album that he was releasing recently. And he would play that album in full and then he would play a couple other albums. And so Mom and I were lucky to be able to go to both more big Ed Sheering fans. I love Ed Sheering.
He's such a king and he's so funny. But we went to the first night. The first night was at the Paramount Theater in Seattle. It was so cool seeing Ed perform in like such a small venue.
And he had amazing stories. And my mom and I both cried because the stories that are behind the songs of subtract are really sad. And Mom and I were just not expecting that when we went to Ed Sheering Concerts. We were like, really, we just weren't expecting to like hear these really sad stories.
And so it kind of caught us off guard, but it was outstanding. And it was so cool hearing the stories behind the songs too. I've always been fascinated behind like the inspiration for songs and albums and stuff. So it was really cool to hear that from the artist.
And then, oh, at the end of the concert, at the end of the subtract tour at Paramount Theater, he sang two songs acoustically, which is so cool. So like he took off his microphone and he disconnected his guitar. And so was literally just his voice and the guitar and like just singing in the theater. And it was so cool because we were so the audience was so quiet and he was just singing.
And it was so cool. I mean, like that I will never forget that moment. It was insane. But yeah.
And then next night we went to Ed Sheering Mathematics tour and it was so good. It was insane. His concert, his stage was really cool. It was a circle in the middle of this in the middle of the field and it was in a round.
So everyone from all angles of the stadium could see it and the circle stage could rotate. So like you would be standing in one place and you'd just be rotating around. And it was so cool. It was kind of funny.
I don't even know, but it was it was funny. And then during the concert, it was insane. So his openers are Mazy Peters and Khalid or his multiple openers. But for the Seattle show was Mazy Peters and Khalid and both of them to amazing.
It was so fun watching them. And then when Ed set started, he sang beautiful people, which if you didn't know, is a collaboration with Khalid and so Ed brought out Khalid and they sang it together and it was so cool. It was so special. I love when artists bring out the people that feature on their songs to sing with them.
So cool. And then later on in the show, I was like, I was taking up with my friend earlier today. And I told him, like, you have to come on stage. Like it won't be a proper Seattle show if you don't, if you don't come on stage and sing a song.
And then the thrift shop sounds starts playing in Macklemore. It comes up out of the bottom of the stage and he starts singing with Ed. They sing thrift shop together and it was so crazy. I have never been that like that stadium was so loud when Macklemore came out.
It was insane. We if you have been following Seattle seismic activity, we beat the Beast Quake and we beat the Swift Quake, which if he didn't know, the Beast Quake was from 2012, 2016. I'm not sure when, but it would happen during a football game when the crowd got so loud that, like it registered on like this seismic activity. I don't know the correct wording, but it registered on like the scale that measures earthquakes.
And so that was a thing and it was insane. And then for the Taylor Swift concert, when she sang Shake It Off, she also registered on the scale, but it was bigger than the Swift Quake and it was bigger than the Beast Quake. Sorry, it was bigger than that. And it was insane.
And everyone was like, Oh my gosh. And so many news articles posted about news like organizations posted about it. I was in the BBC, which is crazy. Like we reached across the bond, but so it was the Beast Quake and the Swift Quake beat that.
And then when Macklemore brought out, when Ed Sheeran brought out Macklemore, we beat the Taylor Swift Quake by like an insane amount. It was crazy. It was insane. And so they sang First Shop together and then I was like, you know, when I was talking about earlier today, because if you didn't know, Macklemore's really was Ben, I forget his last name, but his really name is Ben.
And so I was like, when I was talking about earlier today, I was like, you can't just come out for one song. Like, come on, we need to do more than that. And so then they start singing, can't hold us. And oh my gosh, we got even louder.
It was insane. It was so fun. But that again, that's something I want to refer to. Like it was crazy.
It was insane. It was packed. Yeah, those are the concerts I went to this summer. It was really fun.
It was really cool. I didn't go to a lot, but I'm excited. I think most definitely go to wandering this school year, but if you didn't know, I am a senior this year. So this is my last year going to concerts in Seattle in the fall and winter time.
And so it's kind of stressing me out a little bit because like this is the season, like we're starting to get into the season where, and actually no, we're starting to get into the season where people are not seeing their tours. Like this season, fall season is where people will announce their summer tours and then like spring summers when people will announce their fall winter tours. And so it's making me scared because I don't know where I'm going to be next summer or next fall, winter, or late summer. I'll be here for the first part of summer, but I don't know where I'm going to be.
And so I don't know if I need to buy concert tickets in Seattle or if like, and I'll be able to make it before I leave or fall near that wait until I know where I'm going to college to buy tickets and it's stressing me out, but it's okay. I'll figure it out. I can always buy tickets late. It'll be fine.
I just need to take a deep breath and I need to finish my college applications. But yeah, anyway, thank you so much for listening to this first episode back of Broken Record. My name is Ellie. I'm the host of the show you're currently listening to.
