Today in History: In the days of Jeremiah the Prophet, the governor Gedaliah was murdered. His murder was the beginning of the end for the remnant of Jews in Israel at that time (see 2 Kings 25:25). The Fast of Gedaliah is a shorter fast on the Jewish cal- endar and lasts from sunrise to sunset. It is one of four similar fast days in memory of Israel's desolation (see Zechariah 7:3; 8:19). In the Final Redemption, it will turn into a festival of joy. TORAH PORTION Leviticus 16:1–3, GOSPEL PORTION Acts 23:1–10.
