Spiritual sacrifice, sincerity, and service all precede the Spirit's voice. Praying and fasting are disciplines we exercise that demonstrate that we have a greater spiritual desire than a primary physical need. We don't practice praying and fasting to get what we want. We pray and fast to align more sincerely with what God wants.
