Sunset Grooves Podcast #186 - Matildoutz

from Sunset Grooves · host Sunset Grooves

We have the lovely @matildoutz-paris in charge of the Sunset decks bringing us a full power 2 hours of driving and wicked grooves just how we like it to motivate us before the weekend. Interview with Mathilde ********************* Good morning Matilde 😊 ➢ I hope you agree to answer a few random and fun questions to share with our listeners? Yes of course, my pleasure. ➢ To start you off tell us what song puts you in a good mood when you wake up in the morning? It’s hard to select one track but if I have to choose the one and only it would be ‘Everybody loves the sunshine » by Roy Ayers ➢ Tell us briefly what got you into DJ’ing? When I finally found my nest in electronic music. It was my escape, a kind of meditation in a way and of course my family, the @crepitecollective, the collective  and my acolyte Laurent Flaoh. They helped me overcome my fears, shyness and other constraints we impose ourselves sometimes. Djing is not only mixing tracks together but to contribute to create this environment where everyone can express themselves smiling, crying, screaming, feeling crazy or great in the middle of a crowd. The festivals, travelling, meeting new people even for 5 minutes talking or dancing together, sharing something good. It’s for this Culture. ➢ You have played a number of b2b’s. Tell us one or two things that you love playing in b2b’s that you don’t get when just DJ’ing alone? Sharing a set with someone is sharing intimacy, you take off the masks and you’re naked together in front of the crowd driving the same boat. You open a new way of connecting with your Partner in crime. And when it’s works, it worth it because it’s a wide open door to complicity, confidence, laughter and symbiosis. For example when you don’t know what your Partner will play and you have plenty of tracks in common. It happens a lot with my friend  @lucid-paris « the track you are playing was supposed to be my next one ». also when people come to tell you that the B2B is composed by to different personalities but the story is very coherent. « Mission Accomplished » ➢ 2020 has been a difficult year for the music scene, how has it changed within your hometown and what do you think will be different in the future? 2020 has been really weird indeed ! It’s a new cycle for this planet, especially for humanity. I’m afraid it’s the beginning of a weird and cold way of life. Living with masks , social distancing but we’re smart and strong enough to create and find solutions to reunite all together. I really hope this will be behind us as soon as possible. « Earth without Art is just eh ! ». oh yes and for my hometown it’s quieter than it already was before the lockdown ! Haha ➢ Lastly, regarding this mix you have done for us, can you tell us a little bit of your thought process behind choosing the tracks you chose? First, it was difficult to mix at home since the end of the first lockdown. I was far from my mixer and music for many months. I just couldn’t do it. Last summer I got back into my oldschool crushes, a return to the roots, albums, instrumental, acoustic music, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Classic, Funk. A few weeks ago, Mira upload her set « Kater Blau Birthday AUG 29 2020 » and it inspired me. She inspires many people, many women and I can say that she’s one of the reason why I’m djing. At the end of the set I just wanted to mix and that’s how I recorded this podcast. This set I’ve record for you guys has been stronger than any medicine. I need to heal something that night. That’s why it’s more progressive and deep than downtempo. I downpitched fast deep house tracks with heavy electronic layers to around 108 BPM. Some of the tracks are nice memories like Integrity-Lusine remix or NightWalker- Iorie Remix. I chose those two tracks thinking about people I love and with whom I shared strong moments listening to them. I really appreciate this moment alone within the sound reconnecting with electronic music.
