Sunset Grooves Podcast #195 - Ziggy Phunk

from Sunset Grooves · host Sunset Grooves

We are delighted to have @ziggy_phunk on board with us to bring you something wonderfully different! Known for his exquisite Disco and House productions and sets he has once again delivered a set full of feel good gems changing up his selection as he goes along. If you haven't checked his profile, now is your chance to do so, to discover a world of dope feel good tracks. ****************************** Good morning Mr. Ziggy Phunk 😊 ➢ Tell us what song puts you in a good mood when you wake up in the morning? Hard to choose just one song, as it really depends on my mood on the day. But in mornings I like it to be chilled and easy listening. Often putting on some modern soul in the sounds of Howard Johnson, Isaac Hayes or Teddy Pendergrass or else I listen to some Fleetwood Mac or Bob Dylan. ➢ You are known for your excellent reworks and edits of some classic tracks. What do you look to change to the original so that it fits to a modern sound system and dancefloor? Often making both longer intros and outros for the DJs ! Trying to create a few build-ups which is not to be found in the original and as well adding new elements with for example a new bass, new synths, piano or new drums and percussions to bring some new life into it. I’m moving more away from the edits though, and have been working on a LOT of original tunes during the lockdowns in 2020! So stay tuned for that. (I will always and still be doing edits though - as I love to alter songs I like, to fit into my DJ sets and to share them with ya’ll)... But you will begin to see more and more original work from me in my future releases. ➢ Your feel good vibes are what we love about you. Do you think we can find feel good vibes in all genres of music or you need something in particular to get that smile and hands in the air feeling? I’m absolutely sure you can find “feel good vibes” in all genres of music! I always say there’s basically (in my world) only two terms to describe music. There’s Good Music and Bad music , but ofc my main go-to genres are Disco and House and everything good within that! ➢ Since the pandemic it has been difficult time for the music scene, how has it changed in Denmark and what do you think will be different when things return to a certain “normality”? Well! Like everywhere else in Europe and the world, all restaurants, bars and clubs have been closed for about a year now! During summer 2020 some cafés and restaurants in Denmark were still open with restrictions, but did still use DJs to set the vibe - so that luckily gave me a few gigs still despite of covid... But since October 2020 or so, everything has been closed - we’re in April now. Nothing has opened up yet here in Denmark, so can’t really say how it has changed the scene at this moment in time! Hopefully it won’t have changed anything when we finally are allowed to play amazing music for people and again will be able to dance all night long - but let’s see, it’s difficult to predict anything in these times! But....... Seeing how Australia and Israel now partying the way they do, like we all did pre-covid, gives me hope. ➢ Lastly, regarding this mix you have done for us, can you tell us a little bit of your thought process behind choosing the tracks you chose? Haven’t thought too much about it tbh - when I first hit record on the decks, I just choose songs as I go along. I did decide what the opening track should be though, but that sets the vibe, and from there I just go along. Your podcast is called “sunset grooves” - so I just played and recorded a set that could fit a beautiful sunset! While recording this mix for you, I must admit I was dreaming myself away to a sunset gig. Daaamn I miss those type of sets! I actually just miss playing music in front of people, haha! Hopefully it will be possible again this summer. Until then, hit play guys, and enjoy the tunes in this little mix of mine. Sunset Location: Copenhagen, Denmark
