Super Bowl Rematch Kicks Off 2026 NFL Season | Spokane News

The 2026 NFL season kicks off with a historic Super Bowl rematch: the Seattle Seahawks face the New England Patriots on Wednesday, September ninth—just seven months after Seattle’s 29-13 championship win. This marks only the third time in NFL history that the opener features last year’s Super Bowl foes. The league also expands globally with nine international games, including the first-ever regular-season match in Australia on September tenth. The Wednesday start, last seen in 2012 to avoid political clashes, now serves strategic scheduling needs amid college football’s broadcast constraints. Super Bowl LX saw Seattle’s Jason Myers break records with five field goals and the NFL’s single-season scoring mark. Next year’s Super Bowl LXI is set for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium, followed by Super Bowl LXII in Atlanta on February 13, 2028.
