Superintendent Pauses School Closures | Miami News

New Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Rafael Villalobos is already making waves—handing over a $100K check to fund a cutting-edge STEM program at Booker T. Washington Senior High, while pausing a controversial plan to close or merge over 20 schools. Villalobos insists every student deserves quality education, emphasizing that the review must prioritize resources, facilities, and essential programs like arts. Teachers’ union leader Antonio White and parents alike see the pause as a chance to improve schools and attract more students—showing Villalobos is balancing bold investments with careful, student-centered decision-making.
