On this podcast, Maanda Tshifularo interviewed Noluvuyo Gqadu, who is the Founder of CodeNgwana, an organisation that is focused on teaching children from disadvantaged areas how to code. Noluvuyo is an award-winning technology professional, notably one of the 2021 Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans. She has written stories about technology for kids and has published 3 books, including a coding encyclopaedia that has been translated into isiXhosa and seTswana. She is involved in numerous initiatives aimed at closing the digital divide. Most recently, she helped translate the MIT Scratch Junior Curriculum into isiXhosa. She holds a Masters in Information Systems from the University of Cape Town. On this interview, she talked about how her passion for solving social issues through technology led to the birth of CodeNgwana. She also unpacked lessons from that journey. She is passionate and driven to help that African child go digital through teaching computational thinking and coding.
