A few weeks ago, when we started this series, I shared a host of different versions of Jesus in a somewhat humorous way. We live in a culture where there is a wide spectrum of different Jesus’. I mentioned Republican and Democrat Jesus. Therapist Jesus and Starbucks Jesus. Open-minded Jesus. Touchdown Jesus. Martyr Jesus. Gentle Jesus. Hippie Jesus. Yuppie Jesus. Spirituality Jesus. And Platitude Jesus. And Revolutionary Jesus. Guru Jesus and Boyfriend Jesus. Good Example Jesus. And … I got a text from a few of you afterward to point out that I'd skipped past Ricky Bobby's 8 lbs. 6-ounce newborn baby Jesus, right? Whether you understand what each of those Jesus represents or not, we can recognize that there are lots of versions of Jesus, lots of ways that he has been manipulated. So, when we say that you ought to imitate Jesus, what are we actually talking about? What does that actually look like? Which version of him are we going to follow? Because the reality is that it's easy to get it wrong. It's easier to get it wrong than it is to get it right."
