Surprise! - Beware of Surprises

We like surprises, especially when we know to expect them or when they carry favorable implications. But mostly we dread surprises - as evidenced by clenched teeth, bouts of anxiety, and fits of rage. But what happens when we learn to expect the unexpected? What's the benefit? How could anticipating and even embracing what's unexpected enable us to bypass the typical pitfalls? How do you do when you don't get your way? Knowing that we resist what's unexpected is half the battle, preparing ourselves for it is the other half.
