Royals star Bobby Witt Jr. fell one home run shy in his bid to win the crown less than half an hour from where he grew up. Two-time champion Pete Alonso did not make it out of the first round in his bid to tie Ken Griffey Jr. for the most Derby titles.   ACT 2: WHIPAROUND (4:17-7:36) On the eve of the All-Star Game, this year's participants held court at Media Day. Among the most popular topics of conversation was Pirates rookie Paul Skenes, who will be the sixth-youngest pitcher to start the Midsummer Classic.
