Survival Games: Surviving vs Thriving Why you should care! - Episode 19

from State of Survival Podcast · host State Of Survival Podcast

In most survival games, we're focused on the basics: food, water, shelter, and safety. But what if we could have a little more luxury in our survival experience? In this episode of the State of Survival podcast, we discuss some aspects of survival games Such as DayZ, Rust, Minecraft and the Long Dark that could use a little luxury without breaking the game. We talk about clothing, food, and lodging, and share some ideas on how to make these elements more immersive and enjoyable. We also discuss the new Frontier Comforts update for The Long Dark, which adds a variety of new recipes and cooking mechanics to the game. These recipes allow players to create more luxurious meals, such as maple syrup pancakes and fish cakes. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
