Surviving the Wilderness - Parents

In this chapter of the middle school survival guide, we’re looking at relating to our parents from Ephesians 6:1-3 and Hebrews 12:7-11. Here’s the balance we’re going to try and strike: We want to say what the Bible says, that children are to honor and obey their parents. But we also want to acknowledge that parents are flawed humans that parent imperfectly. And so we’ll try and land the plane encouraging the students to get a different angle on their feuds and relationship with their parents. That their parents are in fact acting out of love for them and have a strong desire for their good. And that ultimately, we submit to our parents “in the Lord” because He loves us and always acts for our good and he has declared that honoring our parents is in fact good for our flourishing.
