Survivor Kaoh Rong’s Scot Pollard Beyond the Torch

Today, Todd & Leslie chat with Scott Pollard, former NBA player and Survivor: Kaôh Rōng contestant, sharing his incredible journey from professional athlete to Survivor to heart transplant survivor. After a 2021 flu shot triggered a genetic heart condition (the same that his father had), Scott endured three years of heart failure before receiving a transplant in February 2024, with his wife Dawn serving as his devoted caregiver throughout the ordeal. The episode explores how this experience humbled Scott—transforming him from lifelong provider to someone who had to accept help—and reveals the deeper story behind his "villain" edit on Survivor, explaining his sarcastic humor and strong bond with Jason Kyle over missing their families. Scott also discusses how Survivor led to the birth of his son Icean, promotes his wife's charity Pearls of Life (pearlsoflife.org) which supports transplant families and organ donation education, and shares that he's now the tallest person ever to receive a heart transplant, saved by donor Casey Angel who gave life to five people.
