Today's guests on the Joe Rogan Experience are Suzanne Santo and Gary Clark Jr. Suzanne Santo is a singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, who first found fame as a member of the well-regarded Americana group Honey Honey before branching off into a solo career. Santo was born Suzanne Alyssa Santos-Suoso in Cleveland, Ohio on January 20, 1985. Santo had pursued careers as a model and actress before she met Ben Jaff at a costume party in Venice, California in 2006.
The two headed off personally and musically, and they began playing together, with Jaff on piano, guitar, and vocals, and Santo on vocals, banjo, and violin. Originally known as Zanzibar Lewis, the band has been playing out for about a year when they signed to Ironworks, a label founded by musician Jude Cole and actor-keeper Sutherland. Changing their name to Honey Honey, the duo's debut album, First Rodeo, appeared in 2008, but it would be three years before the band released their follow-up in 2011. In 2017, Santo stepped out with a solo project, produced by Butch Walker, who employed Santo as a guest musician on his 2016 album, Stay Gold, Ruby Red, allowed her to show off a darker and more personal side of her musical personality.
Gary Clark Jr. is an American musician from Austin, Texas. He is best known for his fusion of blues, rock, and soul music with elements of hip-hop. In 2011, Clark signed with Warner Brothers Records and released The Bright Lights EP.
It was followed by the albums Black and Blue and The Story of Sunny Boy Slim. Throughout his career, Clark has been a prolific live performer, which has been documented in two releases, Gary Clark Jr. Live and Gary Clark Jr. Live North America.
He has shared the stage with Eric Clapton, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, B.B. King, and the Rolling Stones. His latest album, This Land, was released on February 22, 2019. In 2014, Clark was awarded a Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance for a song, Please Come Home.
