She rose to prominence in the mid 80s with the hit singles “Marlene on the Wall”, “Left of Center”, and “Luka”. Her song “Tom’s Diner”, originally released as an a cappella in 1987, was remixed in 1990 as a dance track by the English electronic duo DNA with Vega and went on to reach the Top 10 in over five countries.
