Swarm Troopers: How Small Drones Will Conquer the World

Swarm Troopers: How Small Drones Will Conquer the World by David Hambling, presents a comprehensive overview of the evolution and future of drone technology, particularly focusing on small, low-cost unmanned aerial vehicles. The text highlights how smartphone advancements have significantly driven the development of affordable yet powerful drones, transforming them from niche military assets to potentially widespread tools. It explores the historical reluctance of militaries to embrace drones as weapons, contrasting this with their current and projected capabilities, especially when operating in coordinated swarms. Furthermore, the document discusses how biomimicry, new power sources, and miniaturised weaponry are enhancing drone endurance, autonomy, and lethality, raising questions about their impact on future warfare and their potential misuse by non-state actors.
