Swimming Lessons (The Story Of Jonah) No.2- God Will Find You
from GraceLife Sarasota · host Joe Davis
JEREMIAH 23:23–24 “AM I A GOD AT HAND, DECLARES THE LORD, AND NOT A GOD FAR AWAY? [24] CAN A MAN HIDE HIMSELF IN SECRET PLACES SO THAT I CANNOT SEE HIM? DECLARES THE LORD. DO I NOT FILL HEAVEN AND EARTH? DECLARES THE LORD. When you read those words of our Lord, how do they strike you? Ominous? Intimidating, Frightening? Perhaps, if we’re honest a bit overwhelming, frustrating we cannot hide our sins from God, like none of them? Even the ones deep in the darkness of our most intimate, secret, private places on earth… in our mind & thoughts? We get comfortable hiding from God by manipulating ourselves. It’s almost a sociopathic spiritual condition, isn’t it? Do you remember the last time someone caught you with something you didn’t want anyone else to know? Something you successfully kept from everyone? Maybe something from the past, you had even forgotten about? Probably a habitual failure you hide fearing if it became public, the consequences would be embarrassing, devastating. Maybe it was something you were supposed to do, but you determined obedience in that would be too costly. Oh, you have the philosophical understanding nothing is hidden from God, but you lived like God never saw it? You might even have gone so far as to make a private deal, “God, pretend this never happened I won’t do it again.” It was so far out of mind, you had gotten over initial shame, guilt… seems like you had gotten away with it.
