Twenty years ago, some visionary Sydney cyclists, bush care enthusiasts and community representatives laid claim to an abandoned freight-rail corridor with an eye to creating a haven for nature, cyclists and the wider community in general. Their determination in the face of setbacks finally won funding for Sydney's Greenway project. Environmental engineer Alexa McAuley has the story.
