Symbol of Faith: Part 5 - Fr. Gregory - July 31, 2022

Today, the 7th Sunday of Matthew, Father Gregory continues to examine the Nicene Constantinopolitan Creed with part 5 in his series, Symbol of Faith. The Holy Spirit, the third person and often forgotten member of the Trinity, is the topic of discussion. Father considers what we believe about the Holy Spirit by examining this line, " And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father, who together with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who spoke through the prophets." The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and Son therefore called Lord. He is life-giving and sustaining, as Scripture tells us in Genesis and John. Jesus says in John 15:26 that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father through Him. The New Testament is not only about the coming of Jesus but also the coming of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is what makes the Church the Church and the preaching of the Gospel the Living Word of God. The Holy Spirit's role is to glorify the Father and the Son, not Himself. The Holy Spirit spoke through the prophets, assuring the faithful, that the Old Testament is God-inspired, as proven in II Peter.
