Syracuse Special Teams Revival | Syracuse Orangemen Football News

Syracuse football is hitting the ground running in August training, determined to turn things around after last season’s dismal 3-9 record. With every player fighting for a roster spot, special teams — often overlooked — is becoming a key battleground. Enter new special teams coach Alex Bayer, a former All-MAC tight end and NFL veteran, who’s leading a revamped unit. Stars like Demetres Samuel Jr. and Davian Kerr are stepping up, while Ju’Juan Johnson shines as a punt returner. Freshman Jimmy Gregg, ranked top nationally in punting, replaces departed Jack Stonehouse, and Tripp Woody returns as the reliable kicker. Even Fran Brown Jr., son of the head coach, is making the switch to long snapper. This is more than just depth building — it’s a full-scale rebuild aimed at propelling Syracuse to a winning season.
