Syracuse’s Mixed Bag Against Cal | Syracuse Orangemen Football News

Syracuse’s ACC opener against Cal was a tale of two halves: disciplined defense that held Cal to just 14 points and 67 rushing yards, but undone by costly penalties that killed momentum and erased big plays. The run defense looks promising, with the front seven swarming and tackling improving, while pass coverage showed smart, disruptive play. Offensively, the line remains inconsistent, struggling with sacks and penalties, and the kicking game is shaky—two missed field goals inside 50 yards could’ve swung the game. One receiver stepped up with 82 yards, but the rest of the receiving corps is still finding its rhythm. Coach Brown admitted the team may be more undisciplined than expected, making this a mixed bag with clear strengths and urgent fixes needed.
