Lange Jahre hätten sie auf Veränderungen in ferner Zukunft hingearbeitet, und nun seien diese Veränderungen plötzlich Wirklichkeit, sagt Shanawani. Das ist herausfordernd: «Es gibt jetzt Millionen Dinge zu besprechen. Wo sollen wir nur anfangen?» Unter der Diktatur des Assad-Clans war politisches Engagement so gut wie unmöglich. Jetzt ist Syrien von der Last des alten Regimes befreit, und politisch interessierte Syrerinnen und Syrer beginnen, ihre Freiheiten zu erkunden. Doch wie frei ist das neue Syrien? Und welche Vision haben die neuen Machthaber unter Interimspräsident Ahmad al-Sharaa für das Land? «International» unternimmt eine Reise durch ein Land im Wandel.
