But he hadn’t begun to create his legacy- the one that would eventually inspire and transform the world. In order to do that, he had to leave his comfort zone behind. He had to leave behind family and friends and everything he had ever known. There’s nothing in the text to suggest that his family and friends were particularly toxic, or dysfunctional, or evil. They may have been, but we have no reason to believe that based on the text. I believe they were just comfortable where they were. Abram wanted to leave a legacy that would one day bless all the peoples of the world. He could not do that doing what he had always done. He decided to take the first steps trusting God to show him the rest of the way.
