Take Up Your Cross Daily

“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”Luke 9:23Following Christ is a daily decision. The Lord Jesus does not call us to a life of comfort, self-promotion, or convenience. Instead, He calls us to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him.To deny ourselves means putting Christ’s will above our own desires. It means saying “yes” to God’s Word even when it is difficult, and saying “no” to anything that hinders our walk with Him. The Christian life is not about living for ourselves but for the One who gave His life for us.Jesus also speaks of taking up the cross daily. This reminds us that discipleship is not a one-time commitment but a continual surrender. Each day presents fresh opportunities to trust Christ, obey His commands, and remain faithful in the ordinary moments of life. Whether at home, at work, or among friends, we are called to live in a way that reflects our Saviour.Finally, Christ says, “follow me.” Christianity is not merely believing certain truths; it is walking with a living Lord. As we keep our eyes on Him, He gives us the strength to endure, the wisdom to obey, and the grace to persevere.Today, ask yourself: Am I following my own plans, or am I faithfully following Christ?PrayerHeavenly Father, help me to deny myself, take up my cross daily, and faithfully follow the Lord Jesus.
