I've had several long term customers lose their dogs over the last couple of years, and they were all very unfortunate events that really couldn't have been prevented. BUT uncontrollables always get me thinking about controllables as, well, that's all we can control!Some of the things I recommend when thinking about the health and safety of a dog are first and foremost—training. A dog that listens is hands down the SAFEST dog. I'm going to talk about the two aspects that are critical: controlling arousal and providing accountability BEFORE there's a high risk situation. I discuss feeding protocols that eliminate unnecessary interactions, utilizing crates and leashes where appropriate, having a process in place to tune in your dog when you are going on off leash adventures, and giving more consideration to what we medicate our dogs with.Support the showLove the show?
