Gabrielle Crichlow chats it up with Ann Mitchell about her reasons for entering the tutoring industry, the tools that helped her thrive in it, and the lessons she learned from it.Who is Ann Mitchell?Ann Mitchell has lived with her family in Castle Rock, Colorado, since 2006, after spending seven years at Misawa Air Base in Japan. She is married to a retired US Air Force member who now works for the Douglas County School District, and they have four children who have completed their education in Douglas County schools. Ann served 11 years in the US Air Force before choosing to stay home to raise their children, returning to work when the twins entered Kindergarten. She began working in a Preschool for Students with Disabilities in Misawa AB, Japan, completed her Master’s degree, and has been a certified Special Education teacher since 2008. Ann is passionate about teaching and believes it is her calling. Due to her daughter's extreme emotional dysregulation and depression, Ann decided to stay close and support her, which led her to become a tutor, an IEP Coach, and an entrepreneur. She recently became a Structured Literacy Interventionist and completed her certification in the Orton-Gillingham Methodology, helping dyslexic children gain confidence in reading. As the owner and operator of Castle Rock Online Reading Tutor, Ann strives to be the best academic tutor for children.
