Talking about the commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr.'s only visit to Seattle

Thursday, November 4 on Urban Forum Northwest: *LaNesha DeBardelaben, President & CEO, Northwest African American Museum and the organizer of the MLK 60 Committee that has organized the 60th Anniversary Commemoration of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s only visit to Seattle in November, 1961. The three day event will be held on November 6,7,8 and on Monday, November 8 Martin Luther King III will speak at the University of Washington 6-8 pm. *Dr. Carver Gayton was an teacher and coach at Seattle's Garfield High School in November, 1961 when Dr. King spoke at two assemblies. He met Dr. King and will share his memories of that experience and the impact it had on Seattle's racial climate. *Dr. Lora-Ellen McKinney's father, the late Reverend Dr. Samuel B. McKinney was a classmate of Dr. King's at Morehouse College and they were very close friends. It was at Reverend McKinney's invitation that MLK came to Seattle. Dr. Lora-Ellen McKinney will share her memories of that friendship. *Reverend Lawrence Willis, President, United Black Christian Clergy comments on his invovlement with the MLK 60 Committee and the role the Clergy in Martin Luther King Jr. County will have during this Commemoration.
