The new Cornish Folk Horror Enys Men, is a deliberate, unsettling film about an unnamed Volunteer on an uninhabited island whose existence seems routine, until it begins to spiral with fluctuations in time, encounters with phantoms, and strange lichens that start appearing everywhere. In this episode, director Mark Jenkin discusses the concept of Cornish Folk Horror, and the nature of time within the film — and why trying to make sense of it might “drive you mad.” Additionally, he discusses the films 1970s horror influences, including an unintentional homage to 1973’s Don’t Look Now.
