Tamerlane's Diplomatic Letters: The Art of the Threat

In this episode of Fexingo History, Lucas and Luna explore Tamerlane's diplomatic correspondence — a weapon as sharp as his sword. From his menacing letters to Ottoman Sultan Bayezid I before the Battle of Ankara to his exchanges with the Ming emperor and the kings of Europe, Tamerlane wielded words to intimidate, manipulate, and project power. Drawing on the Zafarnama and Ibn Arabshah's accounts, we dissect the rhetoric of his missives, his use of religious and genealogical claims, and how he balanced threat and flattery to keep rivals off balance. We also uncover a lesser-known letter to King Charles VI of France, proposing trade and alliance, revealing a pragmatic side behind the terror. Join us as we read between the lines of history's most memorable ultimatums. #Tamerlane #Timurid #Diplomacy #Letters #BayezidI #Ankara #MingDynasty #Yongle #CharlesVI #Zafarnama #IbnArabshah #Sahib-iQiran #Chagatai #CentralAsia #MedievalHistory #Power #Rhetoric #History Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
