Tamerlane's Golden Horde: The Tokhtamysh Wars

In the 1380s, Tamerlane faced the most dangerous threat to his rising empire: not the Ottomans or the Delhi Sultanate, but his former protégé Tokhtamysh, khan of the Golden Horde. This episode follows the two wars that decided who would rule the steppe and control the Silk Road. We look at Tokhtamysh's dramatic rise as a refugee at Tamerlane's court, the battles of the Kondurcha and Terek rivers, and the strange aftermath when Tokhtamysh fled to Lithuania. We also explore how Tamerlane used scorched-earth tactics and psychological warfare to break the Horde's power, and how these campaigns shaped his later ambitions in the west. With insights from Ibn Arabshah and the Zafarnama, we trace the shifting alliances, betrayals, and the brutal logic of steppe politics. #Tamerlane #Tokhtamysh #GoldenHorde #TokhtamyshWars #KondurchaRiver #TerekRiver #SilkRoad #CentralAsia #SteppeHistory #IbnArabshah #Zafarnama #TimuridEmpire #MongolLegacy #ScorchedEarth #Vytautas #MawaraalNahr #History #FexingoHistory Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
