T&E Raw: Ra Ra
from The TodCast Podcast Hosted by Todd Hersey
This “raw” edition of the TodCast PodCast doesn’t just skip the edits—it dives deep into personal mythology, obscure prog rock albums, and Napster nostalgia. Eric and Todd reflect on the 1977 Todd Rundgren album Ra by Utopia and the song that shaped their childhoods: “Singring and the Glass Guitar,” an 18-minute prog rock epic and accidental Hersey family anthem. Why Eric calls it “an electrified fairy tale” and Todd considers it road trip canon The accidental vinyl discovery after months of thumbing past the sun god himself Rundgren’s fall from household name to “Who?” in under 40 years Eric’s Napster memories vs. Todd’s hospital parking lot cassette debut Raw vs. Rah vs. Rara: How three throwaway jokes turned into a trilogy Bonus: a brief Hersey genealogy detour through Crystal Gayle, Eric the Red, and John Hersey’s Hiroshima Is it the definitive podcast about Ra? Almost certainly. Is it also the third straight episode with an unedited runtime and a growing sense of cosmic absurdity? Definitely.
