Black women warned Target. We organized. We boycotted. We took our money elsewhere. Target still refused to hear us—and now the same company that gutted DEI somehow approved a children’s costume evoking blackface and minstrel imagery. That wasn’t one person’s “mistake.” That costume passed through design, marketing, photography, merchandising, legal and corporate approval—and apparently nobody in the room had the courage or cultural awareness to say, “What the hell is this?” Target says it’s sorry. Viola Davis isn’t accepting the apology—and DL Hughley isn’t buying it either. Because when Black women tell a corporation it has abandoned us, why does it take public humiliation before anybody pays attention?
