Tariffs have had negative consequences for the global air cargo transportation: IATA

The tit-for tat trade embargoes and tariffs imposition by the global key economies have had negative consequences for the global air cargo transportation. This is according to the head of cargo at The International Air Transport Association - IATA, Glyn Hughes. Hughes says while the bulk of the tariff measures implemented to date have largely been between the US and China, the threat of a global trade war is rising. It is estimated that globally $5.9trn worth of goods are flown by air cargo annually which is about 35% of global trade by value and generates annual revenues of more than $50bn for airlines. Channel Africa's Khumbelo Munzhelele spoke to Glyn Hughes about air cargo transportation in Africa. He began by asking him about the challenges facing the industry.
