from Strona B · host tastethemusic
Welcome to another edition of our podcast series! As every Monday, we bring you artists from around the world and showcase the true essence of house music. And today, we're proud to present a true legend. Richard Earnshaw Richard Earnshaw is a British producer, DJ, remixer, composer, and founder of the record labels Duffnote, One51, and Guess Records. A classically trained jazz pianist, he began his musical journey in childhood, studying piano before continuing his education at the Goldsmiths, University of London. Since around 1999, he has also been active as part of the duo Spiritchaser (with Mark Bamford), and has released music under various aliases, including Inner Spirit. His early solo productions began appearing in 2001, but he gained wider recognition with the 2002 release of the single “People Are People” on Soulfuric Records. Over more than two decades, Earnshaw has built a strong reputation in the house and soulful house scene, collaborating with and releasing music on prestigious labels such as Soulfuric, Defected, Hed Kandi, Ministry of Sound, Sony Music, and Purple Music. His many credits include collaborations and remixes for artists such as Roy Ayers, Jocelyn Brown, Ursula Rucker, Natasha Watts, and Kenny Thomas. In 2010, he released the album In Time, featuring guest appearances by Roy Ayers, Jocelyn Brown, and Ursula Rucker. The album was highly praised and described as "the best artistic house album since Nuyorican Soul." Earnshaw is also known for his live performances, blending instrumental musicianship, DJing, and live vocals with a full band setup including drums, guitar, and saxophone. A passionate radio presenter, he launched the show Sugar Soul in 2008, which later evolved into the brand iCulture Radio. He currently collaborates with Mi-Soul Radio and organizes iCulture events in London and across Europe. During the pandemic, although clubs went silent, he focused on studio work and label development, emphasizing that the creative process—free from the pressure of “what works on the dancefloor”—remains the foundation of his artistic life. Earnshaw also shares his expertise through music production workshops, offering mixing and mastering courses using Logic Pro X and Pro Tools.
