Taught Us The Way of Salvation

from St Mark Sermons · host St Mark Coptic Orthodox Church

In this challenging and deeply pastoral message, Fr. Paul reminds us that the Incarnation is not sentimental. Christ “was incarnate and became man and taught us the ways of salvation,” and that means salvation must be on our radar every time we come to church. Using David’s cave in 1 Samuel 22, Fr. Paul shows how broken, distressed, indebted, and bitter men fled the kingdom of Saul and came under David’s leadership. David became “captain over them,” trained them, and transformed them into mighty men. David becomes an image of Christ, and the Church becomes the place where Jesus trains us, reforms us, and makes us warriors of love, obedience, sacrifice, and the narrow path. This talk confronts “comfortable Christianity” and calls us to the real way of salvation: love that looks like the Cross, obedience over sacrifice, tribulation as purification, and Eucharist as participation not imitation.
