Tawheed - Three Fundamental Principles

from El Berbehari · host Milos Petrovic

This is a series of lectures reading from the book "The explanation of the three fundamental principles of Islam" written by shaykhul Islam Shaykh Muhammad bin Abdulwahhaab (raheemahullaah), by sheikh Ahmad Musa Jibril The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever follows a path in the pursuit of knowledge, Allah will make a path to Paradise easy for him." Source: (Bukhari 10) Ibn Taymiyyah said: "The reason why it is obligatory to love the Prophet ﷺ and venerate him more than any other person is that we cannot attain the greatest good in this world or in the hereafter except at the hands of the Prophet ﷺ, by believing in him and following him. That is because no one can be saved from the punishment of Allah, and the mercy of Allah cannot reach him except by means of the Prophet, by believing in him, loving him, being loyal to him and following him. This is the means by which Allah will save him from punishment in this world and in the hereafter. This is the means by which he will attain what is good in this world and in the hereafter. The greatest blessing is the blessing of faith, which can only be attained through him, and which is more beneficial than his own self and his wealth. He is the one by means of whom Allah brings people forth from darkness into light, and there is no other way to Allah. As for a person’s self and family, they will not avail him anything before Allah."  Source: Majmu' al-Fatawa 27/246 Hasan al-Basri said: "Statements cannot be correct except with actions; Statements and actions cannot be correct except with an intention; and statements, actions and intention cannot be correct except according to the Sunnah." Source: Sharh Usul al-I'tiqad 2/57 'Abdullah Ibn 'Umar said: "Knowledge is in three things: the Qur'an, the Sunnah and to say 'I do not know'." Source: Jami' al-Bayan al-'llm 2/23 Imam Malik said: "Knowledge is not relaying an abundance of narrations, but rather it is light that Allah places in the heart." Source: Al-Jami' li Akhlaq ar-Rawi wal-Adab as-Sami' 2/174 Imam Shafi'i said: "Knowledge is not that which is memorised, knowledge is that which benefits." Source: Siyar A'lam an-Nubala 2/853 Ibn al-Qayyim said: "Knowledge is not about narrating a lot, but it is about piety." Source: Al-Fawaid, p. 842 Abu Darda said: "Indeed my greatest fear concerning standing on the Day of Judgement is that it will be said to me: You have learned, hence what have you done with your knowledge?!" Source: Jami' al-Bayan al-'Ilm 647 Abu Qilabah said to Ayyub Sakhtiyani: "O Ayyub, when Allah brings about knowledge for you, bring about worship of Him, and do not let your [sole] concern be to narrate it." Source: Jami' al-Bayan al-'Ilm 1279 Ibn al-Qayyim said: "The people of the Qur'an are those who read it and act upon it even if they haven't memorised it." Source: Zaad al-Ma'ad 1/327 Al-Albani said: "The religion is not based on intellect and emotions, indeed it is with following the rulings in the Book and the rulings of the Messenger in his Sunnah and in his ahadith." Source: Silsilah al-Huda wan-Noor 520 Ibn Taymiyyah said: "It has become clear in the religion, it is necessary to have in it actions, and it is impossible that someone can be a believer in Allah and His Messenger in his heart, or in his heart and on his tongue, and he does not accomplish outwardly obligations, no prayer, no Zakat, nor fasting or others from obligations... So the man cannot be a believer in Allah and His Messenger with absence of anything from obligations." Source: Majmu' al-Fatawa 7/621 Ibn Taymiyyah said: "When the victory returns to the disbelievers, it's because of the sins of the Muslims, their lack of faith, and their ignorance of tawheed. But if they repent in perfecting their faith and in returning to authentic Sunnah, Allah will ensure victory without the least of doubt!" Source: Al-Jawab as-Sahih 6/450
