However, if you don't have goal tracking set up first you won't know which of those techniques is the most effective at turning website visitors into customers.Define Your Goals Determine How You Will Measure Them Set Up Goal Tracking in Google AnalyticsYou can get start quickly and easily be using your Google Analytics account to track visitor actions that are important to you. For example, in the graphic below, for this particular site we are tracking a goal called "engaged readers". These are people who read 3 or more posts in a single visit to the website. We can reasonably assume that people who are spending that much time reading our stuff would also be receptive to buying our products.I want to know where our most engaged readers are coming from. You can see that direct traffic and email traffic are the two sources that are producing the most engaged readers, so I would want to spend more time on those channels. You can also see that social media is converting to our goals at the lowest rate. So that tells me I need to spend more time tweaking our social media content and strategy to get the numbers up.  Once you have goal tracking in place you can see in black and white, what you need to do to improve your conversion rate. If you want to find out how to set up goal tracking for your site, first get Google Analytics set up for your site.
